Due to the success of the Creative Writing Program at the Queensland Writers Centre over the past 4 years, the program is now a permanent occurrence on the Young Scholars calendar. In Term 1, the Queensland Writers Centre partnered with the Young Scholars program to develop a student led creative writing group that would interact via face to face and online forums. The focus was on creative writing (particularly history and storytelling) and the program also offers opportunities for leadership and appropriate spaces for students to share and critique their work over an extended period of time. On the day of the workshops, the participants engaged with authors in creative writing and team building workshops. The Young Scholars had the opportunity to explore the John Oxley Library and learn how to use primary and secondary sources to create compelling and dynamic fiction. The program is currently in the online phase and concludes in July with a literary event at the Queensland Writers Centre.
