Queensland Academies – Term 4, Week 4

It has been a busy start to Term 4 for Queensland Academies – Students have been participating in a range of different activities.

Queensland Academies Creative Industries (QACI) invites you to Momentum, a Triple Bill showcasing the work of QACI Year 10 and Year 11 Dance Ensemble on Wednesday 6th November, 6.30pm. Momentum provides Year 10 and 11 Dance students with the opportunity to share works from their composition and performance portfolios to an audience of family and friends. The evening showcases a diverse range of dance styles featuring performances choreographed by Yenenesh Nigusse (African Dance Independent Artist), Chloe Lanham (Independent Artist), Renee Place (QACI Dance teacher). Ten students from Queensland Academies Health Sciences campus recently travelled to the University of Queensland, St Lucia Campus to compete in the inaugural Public Health Hackathon event. The competition posed a hypothetical problem impacting on public health and required teams to use a multi-disciplinary approach to present viable, effective solutions. Congratulations to QAHS Team 1 who won overall first place at the event. Their strategies carefully considered a mix of short, medium and long term solutions, which judges thought were extremely well considered and likely to have the greatest positive public health impact. Queensland Academy for Science Mathematics and Technology hosted the regional First Lego League competition on the weekend. They had four teams compete with each winning an award! Microwaved Styrofoam was awarded the Strategy and Innovation Award, Mikado won the Inspiration Award, the Grumpy Cats earned the Teamwork Award and Nuts & Bolts attained the Innovative Solution award. Nuts & Bolts have also been offered a place at the national competition.
