Writer’s Notebook: Done to death
Author-in-Residence Program: Richard Newsome (Young Scholars Years 5 – 7)
Learn the secrets of creating a riveting murder-mystery story, complete with secrets and lies, false leads, red herrings and surprise endings. There has been a murder at Grange Hall, the secluded country estate of the somewhat strange Mortdale family. Participants will assume the character of one of the suspects and work through the traditions of the murder-mystery story to reveal the identity of the guilty party. Careful though – it could be you!
Richard Newsome is the author of the award-winning Billionaire series of adventure novels for middle school readers. The Billionaire’s Curse won the inaugural Text Prize, as well as the Esther Glen Award in New Zealand, and has been published around the world. The series was completed in 2016 with the release of the sixth instalment: The Curiosity Machine.

Students are required to wear comfortable clothes, enclosed shoes, with hair tied back, and bring a drink and a snack. All other materials are supplied.
This workshop seeks to:
- explicitly explore the concept of connection
- strengthen confidence skills
- provide students with the opportunity to develop thinking skills including those associated with comprehension.
